feeder route: Kalkalpen - Gratzener mountains (362 km)

Feeder route: From the national park Kalkalpen along the Luchstrail to the Dürrenstein wilderness area, through the Mostviertel crossing the Danube near the city of Grein, further through the Mühlviertel via the austria czech border to the main forest route, section in the natural park Gratzener mountains.

From the national park centre Kalkalpen in the village of Reichraming the Luchstrail starts, a nature-tourism-managed long-distance hiking trail which affects several primeval forests, especially beech forests. Along the Luchstrail the European primeval forest route runs through the mountains of Kalkalpen, the Gesäuse mountains, also national park with the centre Gstatterboden, as well as through the wilderness area Dürrenstein up to Lunz am See. This is the village, where the House of Wilderness is built. Through wooded areas of the natural park Eisenwurzen and the Mostviertel the trail runs to the Danube river, from the city of Grein along the Most-Trail and through the canyon Wolfsschlucht to Bad Kreuzen. Along the Castle Trail one hikes to the castle ruin Ruttenstein, from there via the Mühlviertler Alm to the Rosenhof lakes. Below the Haubenberg mountain you reach the austria-czech border and soon afterwards the abandoned glassworks settlement Paulina. Here you meet the main route of the European primeval forest route.
